In possibly the weirdest story this week – Tetris can prevent the formation of memories and could be harnessed to prevent Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, say medical researchers.
A team at Oxford University showed volunteers a series of traumatic images the asked half of them to play a game of tetris immediately afterwards. A week later, the test subjects were quizzed to see if they had experienced anty ‘flashbacks’ of the traumatic images – the Tetris players reported significantly fewer.
It is speculated that this is due to the repetitive gameplay somehow blocking the formation of new memories. Can we expect accident victims to be issued with Gameboys in future?
