Some seriously juicy Sony Cybershot camera news for you: Sony’s CEO, Sir Howard Stringer himself, has revealed that the next generation of Cybershot cameras will have Wi-Fi inside, for instant web uploading in a hotspot, starting with the DSC-G3.
At the Sony keynote at CES in Las Vegas today, Sir Stringy pulled out the brand new Cybershot DSC-G3 to show off the Wi-Fi connectivity by showing the audience how quickly a Sony exec had uploaded photos of the presentation (Images of Tom Hanks wearing video projector glasses, to be precise) onto Flickr. It looks as though other publication sources may be possible too thanks to a built in browser, and Stringer stated it would send to connected Bravia TVs too.
Specs wise, we’re talking 10.1 megapixels, 4GB of storage and a 4x optical zoom, but that’s not what’s got us excited. We love the idea of instant uploading, not least because it might make our job a whole lot faster. Sony says it’s partnering up with AT&T in the US to provide camera access to all of tis hotspots, but we’re crossing more than just our fingers that BT will do the same thing for its Openzone. More news coming if it’s at the Sony stand on the CES show floor.
