It had to happen sometime, didn’t it? Not content with keeping Blu-ray to home cinema systems, Panasonic has just unveiled the world’s first portable Blu-ray player, the Panasonic DMP-B15.

The DMP-B15 somehow manages to fit inside its hardback book-sized shell an 8.9-inch LCD screen, a Blu-ray player with BD Live and Bonus View compatibility, an SD card slot and a HD-Audio AV receiver, and it’ll stomach a reasonable three hours of playback on one charge. There’s also Viera Cast tech inside, so you can view certain websites and playback IPTV on it, and a kickstand so you don’t have to worry about propping it up on the train.

We’re a little bit puzzled by this one, as though it’s the full 1080p, how you’re going to reap the benefits of that on a device that’s not quite small enough to fit in your pocket remains to be seen. There’s a HDMI port to output it, but then that’s not very portable, is it? We’ll have a play around with this at the Panasonic stand tomorrow, so stay tuned.
