Let’s get one thing straight. The Oakley Thump sunglasses are hardly engineering masterpieces. They suffered poor sound quality, made you look like an 80s serial killer, and weren’t flexible enough to be useful.
It’s a bit of a mystery then to see that the idea has been copied to create Trispecs, a set of advanced gadget glasses, with stereo Bluetooth, noise cancelling, top notch optics and “high end” design to keep them apart from the riff-raff. We’re really not sure about that last one though.
Still, the idea remains the same as Oakley’s: a pair of sunglasses with built in Bluetooth and earphones. The Trispecs boast stereo Bluetooth and can pair with both an MP3 player and a mobile phone at the same time.
There are also microphones hidden in the frame at the front, and pull-out earbuds that unravel from the glasses like tiny vacuum cleaner cords.
Intrigued? Don’t get counting you pennies just yet. While they’re out in the US now, there’s no word on whether they’ll make it to Britain at all.
