Microsoft wasn’t expected to display its wares until after Steve Ballmer’s keynote speech tonight at CES in Las Vegas, but the Redmond giant obviously couldn’t wait, as it was busy showing off Windows 7 on an Eee at the Asus press conference last night.
Microsoft’s general manager of marketing, Dave Fester, appeared on stage to demonstrate the power of both the slimmed down next gen operating system, and Asus’s Eee PC line of netbooks.
Windows 7 beta has been leaked to download on torrent sites for naughty Windows fans for some time now, but it’s certainly surprising to see the company displaying it off before its own CEO’s keynote tomorrow. As we predicted, it looks like it could point to an official release before the end of the year.
At the Asus keynote, chairman Jonney Shih was asked by a reporter if the firm was planing to replace Windows XP on Eee PCs with Windows 7. “I think that’s possible,” he said. “I think it’s a very good operating system, but I think this is not 100% decided yet.” Stay tuned for more details.
