UPDATE: LG has just confirmed the line up of TVs with WirelessHD tech in. The 55inch LG LHX Slim Wireless TV will offer cordless 1080p picture quality, 240Hz refresh and four HDMI ports if you absolutely have to plug something in. The LH85 model meanwhile comes in 55 and 47inch sizes with similar specs, but no LED backlighting for quite so stunning contrast. Still no release date, but LG will be showing them off at CES later in the week.

Where do you go with HDTV once you’ve reached the full 1080p mark on your gogglebox? You cut all the cables around the back and make your HD TV Wireless. That’s what LG has planned with a new range of wireless HD streaming tellies.

At the LG press conference at CES this morning, the Korean company’s R&D head, Dr Woo Paik, announced that it would launch screens with wireless HD streaming built in, to get rid of all those expensive and unsightly HDMI cables.

There’s no trade off in picture quality either, as the technology will stream full HD images at up to 60 frames per second, all uncompressed, so you won’t notice the difference.

In fact, with theoretical data transfer rates of up to 25GBps, the technology is a potential improvement, allowing even higher resolutions, though that might be a while yet.

There’s no word on specs or pricing, but LG says they’ll be out in 2009. We’ll bring you hands-on reports as soon as we see them on the CES show floor.
