This is creative product naming at its finest. LG’s just dished up details of its “Digital Photo TV”. It’s either the world’s largest digital photo frame, or the silliest name possible for a telly.

Of course, there’s a bit of logic in marketing its photo-displaying capabilities. Where most TVs tend to save on power by turning the screen off when you don’t want to watch it, you can now grab a screenshot from your favourite show and have it displayed on standby instead.

If you’re worried about your green credentials with a picture portrait this big, LG says that the power consumption when displaying photos is just 10 to 15 per cent of that when receiving TV signals, though it does fail to mention that turning a telly off completely will use even less.

There aren’t any other details right now, but expect more after the LG press conference tomorrow afternoon UK time.
