While Sony drags its heels releasing its 9.9mm Bravia ZX1 TV, Samsung has plans to show off a 7mm screen at CES this week, wowing crowds with an all-new LED backlighting system to push LCD skinniness ever closer to OLED sizes.

Samsung’s screen will steal the title of thinnest LCD TV in the world when it’s when it’s shown off, beating Philips’ 8mm prototype shown off at IFA last year.

Samsung will be holding a press conference on Wednesday. We’ll be in the front row, and live blogging proceedings too, but don’t be surprised is a thin LCD isn’t the nly thing on show. Word is Samsung has a huge, yet thin, 50 inch OLED TV to show off too.
