The iPhone’s lack of video recording is a source of much annoyance, but minimalist video blogging site 12Seconds.tv has launched an iPhone app that does its best with what is available.

12Seconds.tv is a site that lets you post short (can you guess how long?) video clips, like a mini-YouTube for the attention deficit crowd. Although Apple have stingily thwarted all attempts to get full motion video working on non-Jailbroken iPhones, the 12Seconds app will at least let you create something.

You simply choose 3 still photos, then record up to 12 seconds of audio. The app creates a slideshow that pans and zooms across your photos – the so-called Ken Burns effect beloved of footage-starved documentarians.

The resulting slideshow is automatically uploaded to your 12Seconds.tv account, where it can be played in a variety of video formats. It is certainly a creative use of the resources, and you can get some nice results with patience.

Can we just have video now, Apple? Pretty please?

I love the iPhone, I’ve got both versions, but I think it’s outrageous that Apple can release a phone that STILL does not shoot video (and has a crap camera) and does not do MMS, crazy!
