Samsung is reportedly pouring a huge amount of resources into developing a new handset running on Google’s Android OS, with the goal of launching the device in the second quarter of 2009.

The as-yet-unnamed phone will reportedly be a variant of the Omnia and Instinct phones, which means we can expect a device dominated by a large touchscreen, with very few physical buttons. It’ll be sleeker in shape than the Omnia, however, which should be music to the ears of those who found the T-Mobile G1 a little on the ugly side.

Samsung’s phone will launch in the US on Sprint and T-Mobile, and we’d expect to see it hit the UK at around the same time (if not before), although there is no word on which operators will carry it over here.
