The latest Sony rumour doing the rounds might not stand up, according to one Sony head honcho. Word is we won’t be seeing a new PSP any time soon, and that claims to the contrary are completely false.
According to Sony’s director of hardware marketing John Koller, the chit-chat about a next-generation Sony handheld is wide of the mark.
Speaking to Silicon Alley Insider, he said that rumours of a new device were unfounded and that “no plans for a PSP2 are underway.”
What he did let slip was that Sony’s pushing developers to digital distribution, rather than its own UMD format. So if anything, we’ll see more downloadable titles next year, but not a whole new console.
Unless it’s all a smokescreen, but then, we don’t want to go starting another rumour…
