It’s official. January’s Macworld will be Jobs-less, and mark Apple’s last participation in the expo. The Mac-maker’s official explanation is that it now reaches customers in different, more effective ways, but that doesn’t quite explain Jobs snubbing it.
According to Steve Dowling, an Apple spokesman speaking to Daring Fireball, “Phil [Schiller] is giving the keynote because this is Apple’s last year in the show, and it doesn’t make sense for us to make a major investment in a trade show we will no longer be attending.”
But Mac fans are understandably hurt that Jobs is not going to attend. Is this the beginning of the end for Jobs’ reign? Is the Apple CEO dodging the event because of a lacklustre product unveiling? More to the point, does Macworld have a future without him?
