What could be better than taking portrait photos with your iPhone? Why, taking portrait photos with your iPhone and then making them look as though they were taken in the cheesy recesses of recent American history, complete with hairstyles.
OldBooth is a fun little iPhone app designed to do just that. It works a bit like cross between one of those seaside ’stick-your-head-through-the-board’ photo booths (that make you look like a sailor or a mermaid or something) and a Crimewatch UK E-fit.
The app can turn any standard head shot into a black & white monstrosity that would not look out of place in a US-style college yearbook, Mad Men-esque corporate photo or 1930’s near-miss attempt at soft focus glamour. Pics can be taken from your photo library or straight from the camera and you can easily pinch them down to the correct size, letting the software morph the edges to fit.
It’s not the kind of thing you will be running a year from now (unless you are really bored, but for a quick laugh over the holidays you could do worse. In the run up to Christmas, OldBooth is on the App Store at the special low, low price of $3.49.
