Apple’s wheeled out a new OS X update this morning, squashing bugs and making performance increases, most notably to MobileMe syncing, networking as a whole… oh, and the operating system’s built-in Chess game.

The bugs tackled by Apple’s 10.5.6 update include Wi-Fi glitches when connecting to large networks, wonky printing from Adobe Creative Suite 3 apps and improved performance with devices from Canon and Brother.

But the biggest tweaks come to MobileMe, with Apple now pushing updates from a Mac to MobileMe’s servers “within a minute” of a change being made to the address book or calendar. It should make the service much more reliable, as data will be sent almost as soon as it is changed. Quite why it still can’t be instantaneous though, we’re not sure.

Available to all Mac OS X Leopard users through the Software Update service, it’s a free update. And that upgrade for Chess? Apple says it “improves the performance and reliability” of the game. Phew!
