Just in case you needed any other incentive to sign up for Virgin Media’s ultra-fast broadband. You know, other than the lag-free gaming and blink-and-you’ll-miss-’em downloads. How’s this: It’s the broadband service of choice for Her Majesty The Queen.
As Virgin Media took us through the capabilities of its new 50Mb service this morning it said around 100 trialists across Kent had been using the service for the last year.
What we didn’t know was Virgin has also been supplying high-speed internet to central London homes. Or at least one central London home. Buckingham Palace.
Inviting the press to take its 50Mb service for a spin at a briefing near Hyde Park this morning, Virgin Media CEO Neil Berkett said: “We have the service in this building,” before waving out of the window towards Buckingham Palace and stating “actually, we’ve been providing broadband to Her Majesty for quite some time.”
We already know The Queen’s pretty tech savvy, as well as eco-conscious when it comes to her gadgets. But the question has to be asked: What’s she using a whopping great 50Mb connection for? Catching up on TV with BBC iPlayer? Downloading the latest albums (Kings of Leon and Queen’s greatest hits spring to mind), or maybe just hammering the rest of the world on Xbox Live? If so, we’d love to know her gamertag.
