Sony’s poised to take the iPod Touch to task next month, with the unveiling of its first full touchscreen Walkman. It’ll pack Wi-Fi, a full web browser and be able to download music and video on the move. But what else does Sony need to beat the iPod?

We’ve already heard the design will be nothing short of breathtaking, owing mainly to Sony’s new 3 inch OLED screen. It’ll make the device wafer thin, as well as delivering higher quality images and video than the iPod.

But impressive as OLED is, it’s still not something unique to the Walkman. It’s an improvement over rivals, yes, but it’s not a killer feature.

So the question remains: What does Sony need inside the new Walkman to finally trounce the iPod? Answers in the usual place below!

No video converting needed would be good, a la Cowon’s more bulky PMPs, and some form of music download service sync.

It needs more capacity. Slim sounds good, but the thing stopping me buying a Touch is that I can’t carry all my music on it. When it gets above the 40GB mark, I’ll think about it.

UPnP music streaming from one Walkman to another, over the inbuilt wifi. Even better, being able to download from someone else’s music collection wirelessly without DRM – although this is Sony we’re talking about.

I just hope they keep the plug ‘n’ play music loading that they had for the last couple of generations, so you can use the Walkman with Linux.
