In what sounds like a late contender for ‘most frivolous lawsuit of the year’, a Colorado mother is trying to squeeze Nintendo for $5 Million because the safety strap on her WiiMote is too loose.

Molly Elvig, from Littleton, Colarado claims that the strap (designed to stop the WiiMote flying off if you forget to hold on to it) is defective by design and that the loose loop could not stop her son from embedding the wireless controller in the screen of her 52 Inch plasma screen.

Quite how this adds up to $5 Million in damages in unclear, although doubtless there was some emotional distress involved. Elvig contends that Nintendo know that the straps are defective and have hidden this fact from the public.

So… best of luck with that, Molly.
