Researchers at the University Of Utah may have found an elegant solution to the problem of drivers using their mobiles at the wheel – a key fob that ‘jams’ the phone.
Actually, ‘Jam’ rather overstates things – the ‘Key2SafeDriving’ is a Bluetooth key fob that twins with your mobile and puts it into a ‘driving mode’. When active, the fob will reject incoming calls and prevent any outgoing calls from being made. Optionally, an “I’m driving the car, leave me alone” message can be played to any incoming callers.
The University has licensed the design and the key fob looks as though it will be marketed in the US at parents who want to stop their kids from driving and talking at the same time. Over here, of course, it is illegal for grown ups to do that too so this could have wide appeal.
They might want to work on the name, though – Key2SafeDriving does sound a bit QVC…
