Nokia is to join the ranks to USB dongle makers, with a super-speedy HSDPA 3G modem pencilled in for an early 2009 launch.
The Finnish firm’s Tapio Markki told Reuters that the device will mostly be sold via operators and bundled with services, and like most existing dongles will be sold with the purpose of getting laptops online on-the-go.
Markki reckons Nokia’s experience in designing and manufacturing 3G tech for phones and mobile devices makes it the ideal firm to compete with the likes of current dongle top dog Huawei. Huawei currently manufactures dongles for the likes of Vodafone and 3 to rebrand, and Nokia could well end up doing a similar thing.
