Google Chrome gets full Windows launch

It’s been out and about in beta form for several months, but Google’s Chrome web browser is now available in its full 1.0 version.

Windows Vista and XP users can now head over to the Chrome site and download the newly-minted application, which offers a number of pretty nifty features you won’t find on the likes of Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer.

The ability to view a page of thumbnails for your most visited sites is probably the key difference, although you can also open an “incognito” window for private browsing, in which case your Internet history will not be saved.

Given that other Google applications such as Gmail have been in beta for years (and none the worse for that) it seems a little strange that Chrome has gone from initial beta to full release in a matter of months. Still, it suggests that the big G thinks its browser is now fully stable and ready to lock horns with its rivals.
