It’s only just gone public on its membership of the Open Handset Alliance, but Sony Ericsson’s already spilling the beans on its plans for Android – launching its first handset next summer.

According to Sony Ericsson’s Garfield Brusewitz, the company will “initially focus on products in the higher segment, but later on will also supplement with products for the broad mass market. The first Android phone from Sony Ericsson is expected to show up for the summer.”

Speaking to Swedish website IDG.se, Brusewitz’ bean-spilling means we’ll be faced with phones of extremely high quality, running Google’s whizzy OS. Think the Xperia X1, but with slicker software inside. Tempting, isn’t it?

And as if that wasn’t enough, HTC has been mouthing off about Android too. Not content with creating the T-Mobile G1, HTC exec Peter Frølund has told Danish news site Business.dk that the company is working “one or more android products by the summer of 2009… I can say that we are working with a portfolio of models.”

Wowzers. Seems it’s all systems go for Android in 2009, and we simply can’t wait!
