UPDATE: We’ve added RIM’s official pics of the Curve 8900 into our hands on gallery – check them out.

If you thought the BlackBerry Storm was the last we’d be seeing of RIM this year, guess again. The push email wonder is making a late bid to be part of your Christmas booty with the BlackBerry Curve 8900. It’s not out until the 20th, but we’ve already got hands on with it – pics after the jump.

After the touchscreen Storm, RIM’s taking the Curve back to basics with a slimline QWERTY keypad, but it’s still very much cutting edge. The 2.4 inch screen packs in a razor sharp 480×360 resolution (Watching the trailer for American gangster on it, we can safely say it sparkles) and there’s GPS and Wi-Fi for all your map/internet/both related needs.

Sadly, there’s no 3G, and like the Storm, the 3.2 megapixel camera is nothing to get too excited about, but for old school BlackBerry addicts who want to inject some decent media playing capabilities into their phone (3.5mm audio output and Stereo Bluetooth), this is a must. It’s on sale at the Carphone Warehouse from the 20th, but you can see it in action right now in the gallery below.

Had a go on one of these and was mighty impressed, the screen quality in particular is stunning.

I’ve been playing around with it today and I have to say the screen is amazing – it’s only 2/3s the size of an iPhone’s but fast approaching the same resolution. Yet to test the software for video converting yet though.
