According to an article in The Sunday Times, Sony’s PS3 Home virtual world – the console’s rival to Nintendo’s Miis and Microsoft’s “New Xbox Experience” – is set to launch within nine days.
The Sunday Times has reported that the service is to launch “in the next ten days” but also “this week”. The feature includes little else in the way of new information. Given that Sony has said there will be an open beta before a full roll-out, that leads to two possible conclusions.
Firstly, The Sunday Times may be talking about the opt-in open beta rather than the actual “launch”. Secondly, they may just be barking up the wrong tree entirely.
The feature also suggests “a pair of jeans will cost about 85p and a flash apartment will cost about £4″ while many Internet sites are now saying that Home purchases will be paid, at least partially, through a currency earned by collecting in-game trophies. The feature also says “the PS3 will set you back at least £350.” The current basic price for a PS3 is under £300. Given the lack of accuracy or other new information, the piece may just be conjecture. Meanwhile… Sony, we’re still waiting to come Home for Christmas.
