First spotted back in August, Medion’s first Blu-ray compatible laptop has just gone on sale. Priced at a reasonable-sounding £799, the Akoya 8610 is a powerful notebook with an 18.4-inch screen.

The display’s resolution of 1680 x 945 means it can’t show off Blu-ray’s full 1080p quality, but you can hook the laptop up to an external screen via HDMI. When you’re out and about, though, Medion says that the battery will last long enough to play an entire hi-def movie.

Elsewhere you get a powerful GeForce 9600M GS graphics card and Dolby Home Theatre tech, not to mention a digital TV tuner. There’s an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of memory and a 320GB hard drive too, so it looks like a very tasty machine on paper.

It’s available now from Blockbuster and Tesco’s online store.
