DVD-Audio and SACD may have failed to grab the public’s imagination, but these ultra high quality music formats still have a lot to offer the golden-eared audiophile – and Denon’s just unveiled the first Blu-ray deck able to play them.
The DVD-A1UD can play Blu-ray, DVD, DVD-Audio and SACD discs, and is compatible with both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio surround sound formats too. It can decode these internally and output them via its 7.1-channel analogue sockets, so owners of old, HDMI-less home cinema receivers can still experience high-res surround.
There are two HDMI outputs (yes, two!) capable of squirting 1080p at your TV or projector, plus an SD/SDHC card slot. The player is Profile 1.1 at launch, so it won’t support BD-Live, but apparently an upcoming firmware update will be able to fix that.
