The N97 is the future of N-Gage, with a wide screen, 3D accelerator and touchscreen controls, but that’s not all Nokia has plans for its gaming platform: next up we’ll see music and location-based games, says its thumb-twiddling head honcho.

According to Jaakko Kaidesoja, VP of games at Nokia, the mobile maker’s newest titles will include music from real artists (including unreleased tracks), as well as games that use the handset’s GPS and Wi-Fi to figure out its location.

That can then be translated into gameplay, perhaps by hooking up with other gamers nearby, or by tuning the game’s content to reflect your location.

Exciting stuff, but we’re still not sure it can beat the iPhone, which is rapidly amassing a monster games catalogue of its own. Have a peep at Jaakko’s interview below, and give us your thoughts in the comments section.
