It’s been counting down since yesterday, but Nokia just unveiled its all-new N-Series, the gorgeous N97. Yes, it’s touchscreen. Yes, there’s a hardware keyboard too, and yes, it’s simply astounding.
What you’re looking at is a phone two thirds the thickness of the N95 8GB, but packing in tons more.
There’s a 5 megapixel camera, an ultra-wide 3.5 inch touchscreen, slide-out keyboard, Wi-Fi, GPS and a whopping 32GB of flash memory as standard. That can be upgraded to an awesome 48GB with an SD card too, and then there’s the battery.
Nokia reckons the N97 will keep playing music for 37 hours. What’s more, it’ll play video for 4.5 hours on a single charge. On standby, you can expect to get 400 hours, or almost 17 days, out of it.
And underneath this hardware loveliness? Nokia’s brand new Symbian S60 software, supporting widgets on the phone’s home screen from some of the biggest names on the web. Friendster, MySpace and Facebook are all getting involved, and the buddy panel from the 5800 XpressMusic also makes an appearance. Oh yeah, it’ll also play N-Gage games too.
In case you’re in any doubt, we’re simply bowled over by the N97. It’s what we’d been hoping the Tube would be, and then some.
Nokia says the N97 will go on sale in the “first half of 2009” with a price SIM free of €550.
