If a listing on a major US retailer’s website is right, then upcoming Microsoft Xbox 360 downloadable expansion for Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost And Damned, will be available not just as a straight download from Xbox Live, but also in boxed retail format too.
Gamestop’s $20 box will not apparently feature a disc – but instead a card with a “unique code to purchase The Lost and Damned over Xbox LIVE Marketplace.” So why schlep to the store to buy it at all? Well, as well as the card, there’ll also be a “two-sided poster”. Woot!
Sadly, by not distributing a disc, or allowing non-Live members (even Xbox Live Silver members can just download direct from Marketplace) to download the content, the whole thing seems mainly like a sop thrown out to retailers, rather than anything game fans might actually want to use their leg muscles to go check out. And no word yet, of course, whether we’ll even see this retail box in the UK.
