It seems that reports of the death of PC gaming have been much exaggerated. The Xbox 360 and PS3 editions may have touched down first, but the GTA 4 on PC looks set to be the definitive version of Rockstar’s free-roaming barnstormer. And it’s out next week…

Yep, keyboard-and-mouse flavoured gamers have had to wait a long time for Niko Bellic to make the trip onto PC, but we reckon it’ll have been well worth it. Why?

1. Liberty City will look better
Yes, the graphics on PS3 and Xbox 360 were lovely, but the dirty streets of Liberty City will be rendered in gloriously high resolutions on a high-end PC. The stutteringly low frame rates of the console versions will be a thing of the past on a fully pimped-up rig, and the texture pop-up should be “whacked” mafia-style too.

2. Massive multiplayer
Console versions of GTA 4 support up to 16 players, but the PC version takes that figure and doubles it. Yep, the deathmatch, race and free modes will support an impressive 32 players.

3. No need to leave the house
“Poopsockers” and shut-ins will love the PC version, because they don’t even need to move their backside out of their bedroom to get it. And yes, we mean legally. It’ll be available via Steam, which means you can download it direct.

4. Become a movie director
The PC edition features a video editor, allowing you to patch together eye-pleasing replays Scorcese-style – before uploading them to Rockstar’s Social Club website for consumption by the general public.
