Bad news commuters: your peaceful journey to work may soon be spoiled by choruses of leet speak coming from Nokia handset owners. One enterprising software wizard has worked out how to get classic multiplayer shooter Quake III running on a handful of S60 handsets. You can play, host your own match and even hook up a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for proper control.
It’s kind of staggering to think that what once required a huge and expensive bit of computing equipment to run, can now operate on a mere mobile phone. The Quake III port has been tested on three S60 3rd Edition phones – the Nokia N95 8GB, N82 and E90. The original N95 won’t work as it doesn’t have enough RAM, but we can’t see any reason why an N96 wouldn’t work.
Installing the game to your handset isn’t overwhelmingly straight forward, but there’s a set of step-by-step instructions to be found here. If anyone has a spare copy of Quake III (you still need the original disc) and wants to give it a whirl, do let us know how it works out.
