Nokia’s not content with making phones, serving music and cranking out next-gen internet services. Now it wants to control your house with an automation centre connected to your smartphone.
The Finnish phone maker just announced the Nokia Home Control Center, an all in one router using N-standard Wi-Fi and interfaces for equipment around the home. The idea is you’ll tap into it through a mobile phone or a PC to take monitor and control electricity usage, switch devices on and off, and take charge of different objects around the home.
The idea is you’ll be able to remotely adjust things like heating and air conditioning, as well as open or close curtains, set the PVR remotely and keep an eye on any security cameras.
Nokia’s already partnered with one of Europe’s biggest energy companies, RWE, to create heating management systems for the home, but the platform as a whole is also open to third parties.
Nokia Home Control Center will be shown off at Nokia World in Barcelona next week. We’ll have hands-on photos of it in action, so stay tuned for more! Nokia says it’ll hit shelves towards the end of 2009.
