OK, let’s get one thing straight: this isn’t Guitar Hero on the iPhone. But it’s close. Gameloft’s Guitar Rock Tour caters for iPhone owners with a hankering for rhythmic button-jabbing, and doesn’t disappoint.

We spotted Guitar Rock Tour for the iPhone when it was announced earlier this month, but now we’ve had chance to play it properly.

As well as all the standard-issue guitar-tapping, there’s the option to play drums too, and the game won’t have you pummelling the screen in time with instrumental or knock off songs. These are the real deal: 17 famous songs, including tracks from Nirvana, The Police and Bloc Party.

It’s like a souped-up version of Tap Tap Revenge, but if anything, it’s more fun with real songs and the option to switch instruments.

There’s also fancy 3D graphics. In all, it’s a terrifically tuneful timewaster. OK, so it’s more expensive than Tap Tap Revenge, but in short it’s also more fun, more addictive, and more varied. Take a look at our hands-on photos below and you’ll see it in action.

Out now | £4.99 | Gameloft (iTunes link)
