Those with a hacked Apple TV can rejoice! Just a few short days after Apple released its latest software update for the media streamer there’s a new USB Stick hack to get the Boxee media centre up and running on it.
In case you haven’t seen it yet, Boxee lets the Apple TV play virtually any type of file, whether it’s stored on the streamer’s hard drive, a network location, another computer in the house, or a USB storage device.
It also lets you see what your mates are watching, and see streaming shows from the web on the living room TV. If you’re in the US, that means the likes of Hulu, although we’re still waiting for BBC iPlayer support on this side of the pond.
The process is dead simple. You simply need a USB stick larger than 512MB, and to download the new USB Creator app. The Unofficial Apple Weblog has a straight forward how-to to get you up and running in just a couple of minutes.
Incase you’re worried about breaking your Apple TV, don’t be. Boxee simply adds a menu item to Apple’s interface – everything else remains the same, and you can remove every trace of it with a few simple steps too, just in case you’re not as chuffed with it as we are.
