If you’ve got an Xbox 360, it should now be sporting Microsoft’s brand new dashboard interface, complete with avatars, new menus and the ability to play games from the hard drive. The question is, was it worth the upgrade?

Have you become besotted with your avatar? Is it still a work in progress, or didn’t you bother making one at all?

What about the Xbox’s new look? Have you noticed any genuine improvements underneath the glitz and glamour?

    Yes. Yes it was.

Is this the most idiotic question ever?
It was a free update which made the 360′s UI look better and operate better and gave you the ability to do more on your xbox. It also only took 10 minutes to get running, so was it worth it? Take a wild guess.

I installed it last night, and it’s very, very slick, but the avatar annoyed me. I’m just not bothered about it, but I had to make one. I really don’t see why they included them. The Xbox was pretty much perfect without them. LOVING the new install to hard drive option though.

Totally. avatar’s shit. makes me embarrased that my friends can see it whenever I’m online, posturing around. I wish you could turn it off.

You could take the time to look at this sensibly. Microsoft sunk a lot of money into making this change. It’s a massive overhaul and now that it is here, there’s no way of turning it back. So Microsoft risked annoying its core console userbase, confusing new users and driving people away, just for the sake of a firmware update.

But most people are very happy with it, or so it seems, so yes it was worth it. It might even get new users in to it as well. But just because it now seems like a success, doesn’t mean there wasn’t an element of risk to it. The question is valid.

Its like microsoft vista meets wii. I hate the cartoon like avatars, they are pathetic, and there is no option to take them away, or buy something more realistic. The menus are nicer, but i am upset that it blocks more then half of the background picture i have (fable2). What is the point of dashboard backgrounds now? It is easier to find what I want, but why put netflix first? I am not even a subscriber of netflix. The download your whole game to the hard drive is a nice option, but most users upgrading to this, have the old 10 or 20 GB hard drives anyway, say goodbye to all my left over space?

I say, make avatars optional, and let people organize what windows they want in what order. Then it would be a bit more wonderful. In the meantime, I will try to figure out how to turn it off. (for now), and go back to the traditional dashboard.
