So, the Eee PC glut shows no signs of slowing down, with parent company Asus officially launching yet another variant. This version is called the 1002HA and it’s a wee bit swanky: it comes with a 10-inch LED backlit screen and a brushed metal finish.

If those premium features sound a world away from the usual Eee PC frugality, the other specs are a little more in line with what you’d expect from a cheap netbook. There’s an Atom processor, 1GB of memory, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 160GB hard drive, 1.3-megapixel webcam, card reader and a choice of Windows XP or Linux for the operating system. It weighs 1.2kg.

We originally got wind of the 1002HA a few weeks back – but now Asus has given the official thumbs up to its launch we can expect to see it in shops very soon. A €449 price tag is mooted – that’s £380.
