iPhone users rejoice! Apple has released a massive new update for the Messiah mobile, taking the firmware to version 2.2 and offering – at long last – over-the-air podcast downloads direct from iTunes. That means you can, yep, download podcasts when you’re out and about, via both Wi-Fi and 3G; there’s no need to download on your computer then sync with the iPhone.

The update also enhances Maps, adding Google Street View as well as walking and public transport directions. Other changes include the usual performance boosts in certain areas and the squashing of some bugs.

Stay tuned, folks – we’ll bring you some hands-on pics of 2.2 in action very shortly!

I am glad that apple is continuing to update the firmware, but can they get some priorities straight? Like better integration with exchange calendar invites and some copy paste. I would love to replace my blackberry with an IPhone at work, but these basics need to be provided. Sure Street view is nice, but all its going to do is help me find the soup line if I lose my job because I missed a calendar invite.
