The Mac rumour mill has a new bit of grist to, er, churn or whatever: the word on Web Street is that Apple will unleash Snow Leopard, the latest version of OS X, as early as the first quarter of 2009.

The news nugget comes from a presentation make by Appe’s Director of Engineering of Unix Technologies (phew!) Jordan Hubbard at a technical conference last week. One of his slides showed the release date for Mac OS X 10.6 (aka Snow Leopard) as “Q1 2009″. Hmmm.

So it’s hardly an official announcement, but given that Hubbard works for Apple, it’s a pretty good indication that we can perhaps expect Snow Leopard to be hear a little earlier than previously thought. We’ll keep you posted.
