It was delayed for a few days, but Google’s new iPhone app, complete with voice recognition, is now live on the iTunes App Store. We’ve been trying it out, and in one word, it’s awesome!
Sure, it doesn’t recognise everything we’ve said to it, but on the whole Google makes a good stab at guessing what you’re saying.
We managed to search our own site, TV listings and found a local newsagent, just by lifting the phone to our ear and speaking. Google makes use of the iPhone’s proximity sensor, so there’s no need to press a button – it just knows when you’re about to speak.
There’s also a new tab for the Big G’s other services, so you’re one tap away from its Translate, Docs, Mail, News or IM apps, as well as tons more.
Our favourite part though, is that keeping the phone to your ear after you’ve finished speaking will trigger a cutesy babbling noise as the phone searches through Google for the best result. Of course, it’s free, and we can’t recommend downloading it quickly enough!
