The BlackBerry Storm has been on sale for three days! Did you buy one? What to you think? We’ve already jotted down our first impressions, but now we want to hear from the most important people of all – real BlackBerry Storm customers!

Is the Storm going down, well… a storm? Is it turning out to be everything you’d hoped? How’s the touchscreen, got tired of clicking it yet?

Give us a shout with your first findings in the comments section below, and if you’re still debating whether to buy a Storm or not, why not ask those niggling questions to those that have below too!

I went into phones4u at the weekend, ready to buy it, but there was someone already returning one! I had my confidence shaken, especially as I’m not keen on voda (had bad experience with them years back). If anyone has one, I’d like to know if it’s good or not – couldn’t tell why the other person returned theirs.

I don’t own one but I’ve tried one out – I think there’s a lot of potential in it, so long as we can get some firmware updates ASAP. It is very buggy atm, but who knows? Maybe it’s a diamond in the rough…

I’ve just had mine and started playing with it. First impressions are that it’s a little slow. My iPhone is much quicker, however it may speed up as I use it more. I bought the phone against a little voice inside my head screaming ‘but where’s the wifi?!’ I’m already wishing it had wifi. Hopefully RIM will bring out an updated version soon with it built in. I’ve yet to sync my data to it. Certainly the screen and keyboard are very nice. But as I said, but slow!

An iPhone AND a BlackBerry Storm?… Now that’s just greedy.

Two phones? Work and play? :)

  • Aubrey

Well I’ve had an iPhone for the past year a jailbroken one on Vodafone and I was due an upgrade with them, so thought I’d try out the Storm.

Playing with it as I type (Storm that is) and it’s still very slow, desperately in need of a firmware update I think. Also the CD mine came with won’t work on my Macbook :(

I got mine on Saturday, unfortunately it’s already going back to Vodafone.
Basically it’s like marmite; you either love it or hate it.

I played with it for a day, then called Vodafone and told them it’s back in its box and to come and get it!
    They’re collecting on Tuesday.

No point into going into speeds, specifications etc (although I have to stress there’s no email client regardless of what blackberry say on their website).

The huge problem of the phone is its innovation, its sellling point: the whole screen is a button.
So technically this is NOT a touch screen phone.

You highlight what you need on the screen then you click down to activate. So you have to do everything twice.. You’re supposed to click on the application without highlighting it (I’m told) but that didn’t work for me.

And when the screen goes down it makes this pathetic little plastic-y noise (pushing the movable part down makes a noise, the phones doesn’t actually make a noise)

Also: it takes about 3-4 minutes to wake itself up. It did it 3 times. How many times does it need to sort out its OS??? This would definitely drive me crazy in the mornings…

Also: the accelerometer is too trigger happy!!! you go a bit to the left and everything goes tits up on the screen!!

Then the screen is too sensitive when it shouldn’t be and not responsive enough when it should be. A mess!!

So I decided to return it because I don’t want to stay with it and 3 months from now realise I hate it. I’m not staying 18 months with a phone that doesn’t impress me as soon as I take it out of the box (remember that feeling?)…

the phone is sleek and gorgeous but I honestly don’t see how those early reviewers could have been raving about the “tactile feedback”.

You have to give it to Apple for making the iPhone so effortless. By the way, I don’t have an iPhone (before anyone says that I’m a Blackberry hater). Actually I do think the iPhone is very last year too.

You could get to like some of Storm’s functions and eventually get used to this “clickability” I suppose but it lacks the “wow” factor…

The above person has gone to far I have a iPhone and it is nowhere as good but is a good phone but as I said on day one it has a few bugs and blackberry need to look at this then there the lack of mac software needs sorting

But I am keeping my one

  • cgsmith

I hear ya but 18 months is too long to stay with a phone that you’re 80% sure won’t work for you… I had to make a snappy decision…

I have also had an iPhone for the past year. It’s jailbroken and on Vodafone and I was also due an upgrade with them, so thought I’d try out the Storm… (just like the guy before)

I tried out the storm and all it’s features, I tried out all the features… I noticed the phone became hot and ran out of power! I’m guessing all the applications were still rinning in the BG (n that sucks, really!)…

If you’re getting this phone, make sure you get double insurance. Something abou this phone scares me outta keeping it. Vodafone’s comin here to get their BBStorm on Tuesday also!

I’ll just wait for BB-STorm 2, of BB-Tornado! for now, I’m sticking to my iPhone… I just love it (esp the Threaded message style in the sms, the AppStore, iTunes, Youtube, the WiFi and o yea Cydia Installer)…

  • cgsmith

yep, the Storm felt very frail… sleek and nicely heavy but very frail. By the way, it took Vodafone a whole week and 6-7 phone calls to sort themselves out and come and collect mine! their customer service was appalling…

  • cjsmith

I have the storm and already on my 2nd one in a week. The battery doesn’t even last a day. The flip screen is so slow to adjust when in switching between portrait to landscape. It crashes evey now and then for no reason. The touch screen is very inconsistent, one minute difficult to respond to touch buttons then ridiculously sensitive. It takes ages to start up. No Wifi. The gap between the touch screen and the phone case is huge. It looks like you need the holster to carry the thing around, making it bulky…The list is endless! Its rubbish!! 1 out of 10. I am serious. Very frustrating, not only as I was looking forward to my first Blackberry but it realy lets the brand name down.

I’ve never seen a Iphone so can’t compare. I’m thinking of exchanging the phone for a Bold. Can anyone advise if this is good?

  • BBstorm user 321

    Well…
I have an iphone and a blackberry storm.
And I have to admit that my iphones touchscreen is more simple and “loose” if you know what I mean. But I do like my Blackberry storm, the only gripe I really have is then when I want to text or im very fast, I find my self just holding the screen down, because you literally have to click the screen.
I haven’t had any problems with my Blackberry yet…
And I got it a few days after launch so I just think most of the people who returned their BBjust had bad luck.

Im deciding whether to get a bbstorm, HTC Touch HD or the Samsung Omnia or Pixon….. as soon as i almost decide i see a review which freaks me out. I dont have an Iphone and never messed with one so cannot compare- my current phone is an LG Viewty which i actually had no problems with at all, in fact, i quite liked it but i am now well due an upgrade. Can anyone help with with constructive advice….pleeease!

Hi, Only had my Storm for a couple of days and hate it already! 4 times today its crashed for no reason and taking 3-4 minutes to reboot after popping out the battery? Whats that about? The applications seem very slow to respond. The keyboard is very difficult to use. On a plus side it ‘feels’ very robust, quite heavy. It gets hot when in constant use and the battery lasts less than 1 day even on a full charge.

I used the Bold before this and really regret upgrading it for this rubbish!!! If you’re thinking about a Bold GO FOR IT!! they are fantastic in comparison! Wifi and everything!! lol.

    Good luck!

Hey, i’ve had my storm for about 4 days too and i totally agree with the comments about the screen, i wanted it to get it next year but got it early cos i got a good deal on another phone for a gift. quite glad i didn’t wait till next year! i’m not crazy when it comes to technical stuff, i like quick and simple phones and after owning the prada i just can’t get used to the storm!
i’m not excited about it at all! normally i wouldn’t be able to put a new phone down and would find any excuse to use it but with the storm i don’t think i’ve taken it out in public once, not because it’s ugly or i’m ashamed but it’s just a bit of an effort, mainly because it’s not fully touchscreen, then there’s customising it and the crappy camera.
i may be shallow too but the new prada is a lot prettier, other than the sliding keyboard that i’d probably never use and the prada print eventually coming off, it looks like it’s a way better version of the old one.
my storm’s going back tomorrow! i won’t last 18months with it and the tariff’s quite expensive, i won’t be able to change that for 9 months! plus i love orange wednesdays! i need to be able to type fast and would rather not be stuck with a heavy brick knocking around in my bag.

though it is nice to look at and has some nice features like the cut and paste (which i still haven’t been able to do on first attempt) it’s just not my style, plus the vodaphone logo being plastered across the bottom is a bit annoying.

good luck to ne1 that has or gets the storm, it’s true it’s like marmite, it just wasn’t for me. thanks!

Just got the storm, i think BB fixed all the OS problems with the 9530 in the past few months. I absolutely love it. It takes precedence over my IPod Touch all the time.
I do not care for the WiFi as i find it slower then the BB and i am not always in a hotspot.
The clickable screen is AMAZING cause I don’t hit things I do not want to. (have this problem with the HTC touch and Ipod Touch)

  • Amber

I have had my storm since it came out. Its just fine. I have learned to save my pictures on my memory card(instead of phone memory) and your phone goes alot faster! Good luck
