A translation of a Spanish-language games magazine appears to show that Rockstar’s Nintendo DS Grand Theft Auto game – Chinatown Wars – will be almost as large in scale as Grand Theft Auto IV.
According to the translation by Nintendo Everything: “The game uses nearly the whole map that appears in GTA IV. The only neighborhood that doesn’t appear is Alderney (Jersey City).”
Of course, there’s a lot less detail to streets in the cel-shaded game as they’re viewed from the top down. But the same magazine translation also provides further information on the controversial drug-dealing elements to the game: “Drugs have a big importance in the game. [The] drug system can be compared to Drugwars – you have to control stock, buy in one neighborhood and sell in another. You are given a map so you know what people demand and at what prices.”
The Spanish preview also says you’ll be able to use the DS’s built-in microphone to whistle for a taxi! And use the touch-screen to check your PDA and GPS, access people on the map and control thrown objects like grenades and Molotovs.
