Playboy is working on its first made-for-mobile series: Interns. The firm told MobilezedTV that the production would focus on real interns in the Playboy office in New York.

As an unscripted show, it focuses on every day situations; the cameras will roll and then the script will be moulded in the edit room.

The series was shot in the Playboy offices in NYC, where little additional equipment was needed, like lighting, thus keeping the budget down. The show was shot in standard definition, according to Company co-founder Tripp Swanhaus, “HD was discussed but we decided that it wasn’t necessary.”

“One of the missions of the digital media group is to expand the brand,” said Playboy’s Don McGuire.

“Things like this are building blocks to building the brand. We’re looking at the 18 to 24 target audience with a male/female split, and we think ‘Interns‘ hits that sweet spot well.”

Season one is made up of six, 90 second episodes. Playboy sees the series as an opportunity for product placement and ads, both for itself and third parties.

Playboy is still sitting on certain bits of info, like who the mobile carriers will be, but there are plans for a comprehensive marketing campaign to support of the series, which will debut on November 18.
