Gameloft have released Guitar Rock Tour for the Apple iPhone (and other mobiles) – a music game that’ll be very familiar to fans of Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Gameloft describe it as an “alternative to Activision’s Guitar Hero”, but you could just as well call it a fairly straight rip.
Jam along to a mere eight covers (but 51 levels and three levels of difficulty) including Heart-Shaped Box, Beat It and Message In A Bottle. Eat that Tap Tap Revenge. For the guitar, you tap notes as they hit the bar; for drums it’s the same deal but only two lines of notes rather than four.
No multi-player option as yet, unlike Tap Tap Revenge. But a more mainstream songlist and recognisable control method. But how long will it be until Activision and Red Octane, or MTV and Harmonix, get their act together and produce a mobile version of their games for the iPhone, with multi-player, multi-instrument jam sessions. Now that will rawk!
