Rumours are circulating that Apple’s creating an even lighter MacBook Air, manufactured from carbon fibre to make it even skinnier than the current Aluminium model.
According to AppleInsider, “those familiar with ongoing R&D efforts say the company is hoping to replacing the Air’s lower aluminum case, or bottom cover, with one constructed from carbon fiber.”
It’s reported such a move could trim 100g from the Air’s eight, to push the laptop below 3lbs.
Whispers of a pre-production model have even been repeated online, with reports that its base is the carbon fibre’s native black, while the aluminium top remains untouched.
Apple has already confirmed there’ll be no new Macs this side of Christmas, so it’s certain a carbon fibre MacBook Air will release in 2009 at the earliest.
