We’ve already told you today how mobile web device maker Datawind has a full netbook in the works, but that won’t be out until next year. To keep you happy until then, it’s releasing a new PocketSurfer model, the PocketSurfer2R, and even offering unlimited internet for life on it. It’s not in stores until next week, but we’ve already extracted it from its box – come and see what it’s like inside!
The original PocketSurfer wasn’t much in the looks department – you could easily mistake it for one of those old pocket translators businessmen carried around with them in the 1990s for no reason. But its USP is a crucial one: superfast GPS net connectivity and desktop width web browsing for a one-off cost – and unlimited useage for life for just £60 more.
The 2R still has that with a few tweaks – most noticeably, the D-pad is gone in favour of a tiny trackpad for easy scrolling. Want to know if it’s worth ditching Opera Mobile for though? Flick through the gallery below, and be sure to check back tomorrow when we’ll have a full breakdown of our first impressions.

Long 24 hours guys…where’s the review??
Hi Rexter, apologies for the delay. We’re still pulling it together. In the meantime, I can report that it’s *extremely* quick to browse websites, although the screen quality leaves a lot to be desired. It’s not a patch on a normal mobile screen, let alone an iPhone, HTC Touch HD or T-Mobile G1. The mini trackpad also takes a bit of getting useful, and is a bit on the fiddly side. That said, it is an ultra-cheap way to stay connected on the move, so it’s a case of weighing your specific needs.
