The BlackBerry Storm‘s an impressive bit of kit, and Vodafone says thousands of customers have already pre-ordered the device. Are you one of that number? We want to know!

Did you pre-order the BlackBerry Storm? If so, when? Have you been waiting for days, weeks or months?

Has Vodafone taken your details, or did you go through Phones4U?

Most importantly, why did you plump for the Storm over every other phone in the world? If you’re steering clear, tell us that too!

I’m still waiting. I heard so many mixed things – this site said it was slow, but other reviews I’ve seen said the touchscreen will be a killer. Hopefuly there’ll be software updates for it so I’ll buy it once I’ve used it.

    no

No. i’ve got an N95 8GB and I can’t see any reason to switch to the Storm. Fine it’s got a fancy touchscreen, but I don’t need one. Even for emailing I’m not that fussed – it’s just a gimmicky old school BlackBerry. End of story.

My phone contrac, doesn’t expire for some time still, but I’m happy to sit on this one and see if anything better comes along from anyone. To be honest, I might just plump for a Nokia N96, I have big hands and I’m quite a fan of keypads!

No app store means no sale.

I do not believe that a touchscreen can rival the small keys for what Blackberrys are all about – fast typing of emails. Everyone’s following Apple blindly on touchscreens. But sometimes they’re not an added benefit. And I reckon this is one case in point. RIM should stick to what it does best – simple, smart, business devices.

Have just ordered the Storm over the weekend.

Didn’t go for the iPhone: I think it’s a little, erm, last year and I’m desperate to leave O2 in general…

Didn’t go for the HTC: it actually looks like the best of all 4 options but I don’t want to pay for a phone that I’ll get on an 18 month contract (too long!) and be on an expensive tariff, (obviously apart from that it’s out of stock).

The G1 was never an option. Specifications aside, it looks hideous. The design is awful.

I’m told the Storm will be despatched on November 14th so should have it for Monday 17th.

yeah, the keypad is far from dead. In fact I reckon it’s going to have a second wind in 2009. And the ol’ fashioned qwerty. Viva le button!

  • Coopinho

    No.

  • Stephen Ebert

With no Wi-Fi and it being slow and buggy in places…no! I’ll give this one a miss.

I’m waiting for the Storm 2… with Wi-Fi, a 5 megapixel camera (and proper flash), and an even better screen, that actually pushes back at me, for force-feedback gaming on the move!

I cannot decide which phone to get! Help!

yeah i attempted to order the storm with vodafone direct, but they won’t give it on pre order to customers that want to port their number over from another network, new numbers only. so i think i might stay with orange and get the HTC HD this week

  • http://NA Stephen

James; thanks :) I’ll have a look. The problem I have is that each of the main new phones has a disadvantage that feels big.

i.e. iphone – great but no ‘real’ keyboard nor option to connect one.
G1 – has the keyboard but the tariff scares into thinking that internet browsing isn’t as unlimited as one might think.
Storm – looks almost perfect but no wi-fi. Can I connect a ‘real’ keyboard to the storm? Could I type on the touch screen for hours and ‘enjoy’ it? Is the tariff on internet browsing as good as iphone?

  • cgsmith

vodafone allowed me to pre-register and preorder… don’t do it online, just call them (the phone call lasted 40 minutes but I wanted to port the number)…

  • cgsmith

PS: Orange have the HTC back to stock at a price of £79.99 with the £40 rate and no unlimited browsing… AND an 18 month contract… bad…. I don’t know what they were thinking…

  • Cwlcymro

I’m a Vodafone customer who is due an update – I asked for the Storm and apparently they are calling all current customers who are in their upgrade period and have requested a Storm on Friday – we’ll see!

Mobiles.co.uk have the HTC HD on both O2 and Orange for free at £35.
