This should have Sony shaking in its boots: Panasonic just confirmed it’s buying Sanyo in a deal worth around £5.5 billion to create a tech superpower in the Far East.
Confirming rumours circulating last week, Panasonic says the deal will create a single firm worth a whopping £69 billion, and make it the largest company in Japanese consumer electronics.
For the time being, Sanyo will be kept as a separate brand, but there’s no telling what’ll happen in the future.
