AT&T lays out future iPhone plans

AT&T’s not sitting still now it has exclusive rights to the iPhone in the US. It’s intent on rolling out brand new services to go with Apple’s smartphone, and some, according to the company’s mobile boss Ralph de la Vega, are just plain bonkers.

Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit, the mobile boss said it’d be possible for the iPhone to have downloaded the morning’s news feeds, tell your coffee maker to start boiling up a brew, and then wake you up with a cheery alarm.

De la Vega also says it’ll be possible to “fling” feeds from an iPhone to the TV using gestures instead of menus, and has already revealed AT&T has plans to integrate the phone with its U-Verse TV and VoIP services.

The idea is to allow voicemails to be played back through the TV, or for PVRs to be programmed remotely via the iPhone.

Sounds peachy, but given the network is still dithering over when to allow tethering on the iPhone, we’re not holding our breath for any of this stuff soon.

That said, De la Vega does have a good track record in rumormongering. He was one of the first officials to let slip details of the 3G iPhone back in April.
