Do you remember all that palaver back in 2000 when all the networks were bidding £billions over Third Generation mobile licenses..? Well, T-Mobile at least is looking beyond 3G, hot-footing around HDSPA+ and going straight for the jugular with 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE), according to Electronista.
Now, hold your handset horses for a second, 4G LTE sounds pretty awesome, but you need to understand what that entails.
An article from Reuters published in September, suggested that when T-Mobile tested the network in a moving car on a German highway, it was able to get 170 Mbps for downloads and 50 Mbps for uploads. OK, now we’re impressed.
So, how much would we have to pay for this super service? When will it be available? Honest answer is we don’t know. More than likely a few years. But hey, Wi-Fi is readily available now in heaps of areas, and WiMAX is being implemented in a few cities. Plus, in the meantime, T-Mobile is apparently planning an upgrade its existing 3G software to support up to 14.4 Mbps. Not quite sure when though…
