Not content with winning the HD format war, Sony’s just unveiled its latest invention: CDs that use Blu-Ray technology to create better sounding music.
The company says it can record HD sound (that’s surround sound to those outside the marketing loop) onto a normal CD using Blu-Ray’s blue laser, but still allow it to be read by a normal CD player.
Sony’s calling the new technology “Blu-spec” and plans to launch 60 albums using the technology from The Byrds and Miles Davis amongst others.
