The web has been buzzing with talk of a new Mac Mini, designed from the ground up with whizzy new features and an all-new design, but since Apple confirmed there’s be no more Macs before 2009 we’d gone cold on the rumours. Until an Apple executive phoned a fan to confirm a refresh is in the works, that is!

Speaking to AppleInsider, one Mac fan told how he e-mailed his concerns about the Mac Mini’s demise to Apple’s Hardware Engineering Chief, Bob Mansfield, only to receive a telephone call soon after.

Although it wasn’t the Apple boss himself, one of the Mac-maker’s “executive care” team rang to confirm the company is aware of demand for the Mini, and encourage patience.

“I got a prompt reply by phone from an Apple executive care person essentially giving me no new information but assuring me that Apple knew the mini was a popular machine and to be patient,” the eager Mac fan told AppleInsider. “I certainly appreciated the contact, and I think it was a nice way of letting me know that rather than bug their head guys.”

It’s not the first time Apple’s executives have responded directly to customers. In August, Apple CEO Steve Jobs replied to a customer e-mail, confirming an impending software update for iPhone 3G owners, remedying problems with devices locking up and failing to boot.
